Concept Driven Design

Bloomberg

  Bloomberg KYC Integrated Solution Platform

The Bloomberg KYC Integrated Solution Platform enables financial institutions to navigate complex regulatory requirements related to onboarding, screening, and verification processes between buy-side and sell-side counterparties. Bloomberg sought out a UX design partner to support the KYC team in re-architecting a platform to better serve user needs and drive future business growth. My team's challenge was to strengthen the existing IX foundation, unify the KYC product suite while created design solutions that would quickly adapt to rapid product evolution.

Solution | Unified design language

We created a single design language that unified a fractured product suite that included three application, identified quick win usability improvements, and better leverage the Bloomberg brand.

Design System |

Once a single design language was established, we then created an extensive design system that united the KYC product suite and provided the guidance and resources for agile teams (60+ team members) to create meaningful user experiences. The design system included base, mid and high-level components and patterns.

approach

To accommodate this large-scale project, the design initiative was divided between two teams. The Platform Team provided design leadership, strategy, and assets to support the Product Team implementing of tactical projects. Below are a few examples techniques used by the Platform Team to establish a sound design approach and empower the Product Teams with the guidance and tools to execute the KYC product vision.

Discovery | Clarifying goals & moving forward

First a clear understanding of the product landscape and team dynamic where established. Through research activities, stakeholder interviews and workshops sessions, engineers and CX experts openly shared their product insights, everyday challenges, and ideas for improvements. The result was team consensus on a new strategy to introduce user-focused design methods and reduce frictions between disciplines.

Design | unifying product suite

Once we identify the opportunities for improvements, we set about establishing a unified visual design for the KYC product suite. We took a tiered approach exploring small, medium, and maximum shifts in visual design. Each concept required a different level of CSS alterations to existing code, but stayed within established Bloomberg brand guidelines. Design explorations included the following concepts
